چکیده
We report inelastic light scattering experiments in the fractional quantum Hall regime at filling factors ν 1/3. A spin mode is observed below the Zeeman energy. The filling factor dependence of the mode energy is consistent with its assignment to spin flip excitations of composite fermions with four attached flux quanta (φ=4). Our findings reveal a composite fermion Landau level structure in the φ=4 sequence.

A microscopic theory of skyrmion excitations in the fractional quantum Hall system
Charged spin textures known as skyrmions in the quantum Hall system have been of great interest. In the limit of weak Zeeman coupling, it was predicted that the lowest energy excitations around filling factor ν = 1/M with odd integer M are skyrmions [1]. Recent experiments demonstrated the existence of skyrmions for ν near 1 in two-dimensional electron systems [2, 3, 4]. Since the skyrmion size...

We have employed tilted-field magneto-transport measurements of the energy gap for the odd-integer quantized Hall states at Landau level filling factors ν = 1,3 and 5 to determine the spin of thermally excited quasielectron-quasihole pairs. At ν = 1 our data show that as many as 7 electron spin flips accompany such excitations, while at ν = 3 and 5 apparently only a single spin flips. These res...
متن کاملCrossover and coexistence of quasiparticle excitations in the fractional quantum hall regime at nu < or =1/3.
New low-lying excitations are observed by inelastic light scattering at filling factors nu=p/(phip+/-1) of the fractional quantum Hall regime with phi=4. Coexisting with these modes throughout the range nu < or =1/3 are phi=2 excitations seen at 1/3. Both phi=2 and phi=4 excitations have distinct behaviors with temperature and filling factor. The abrupt first appearance of the new modes in the ...
متن کاملResonant inelastic light scattering investigation of low-lying gapped excitations in the quantum fluid at ν=5/2.
The low-lying neutral excitation spectrum of the incompressible quantum Hall fluid at ν=5/2 is investigated by inelastic light scattering. Gapped modes are observable only in a very narrow filling factor range centered at 5/2 at energies that overlap estimates from transport activation gaps. The modes are interpreted as critical points in the wave-vector dispersion of excitations that preserve ...
متن کاملO ct 1 99 3 Half - Integral Spin - Singlet Quantum Hall Effect
We provide numerical evidence that the ground state of a short range interaction model at ν = 1/2 is incompressible and spin-singlet for a wide range of repulsive interactions. Furthermore it is accurately described by a trial wave function studied earlier. For the Coulomb interaction we find that this wave function provides a good description of the lowest lying spin-singlet state, and propose...
